WHAT DO WE NEED?
4x4 Truck – We use our vehicles for travel to classes in various to towns and villages, often over very rough roads. Our 15 passenger van is very useful for moving us, students and class resources, as it has plenty of space and is dry. Often a 4x4 truck is needed to get through on some roads. We have a 4x4, complete with benches in the bed for passengers, but it is 11 years old and worn out. It was shipped to Honduras years ago after being given a “Certificate of Destruction” in Florida, and was rebuilt here. It is held together in places with wire and drywall screws and has rust holes. We replaced the transmission recently but the right one wasn’t available. The brakes have been worked on frequently but the anti-lock system still malfunctions. This truck breaks down frequently. We are trusting God is going to provide us with a better one. A new basic 4x4 Toyota in Honduras costs about $30,000. A used reliable truck would cost $15,000 or more.
Camp Resources – We plan to have a camp for Deaf children and their hearing family members in January 2011. The emphasis will be helping them comprehend the gospel and also improving communication within the family. Most of these folks are poor. For example, we have some families that walk anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours from their home to get to a road, and they have no running water or electricity. Providing transportation, food, camp facilities, craft and teaching supplies, and of course the traditional t-shirt will cost about $63 per person. We expect up to 70 people. The need for this camp is approximately $4400.
Bibles – We have given away thousands of Bibles over the past 3 years. We also provide Bibles to local Honduran pastors and Christians for their efforts. We continually buy Bibles as funds come for them.
