Imagine firemen without the ability to communicate...

Last month we mentioned a special invitation to teach the firemen in Comayagua, the largest city in central Honduras. It has been awesome! We discovered they have a Christian fireman's association, and they began the first class by welcoming us with thanks to God for His provision of help.

All the students are volunteers and are self-motivated. They desire to serve their community and God to the best of their abilities. While primarily they desire to communicate with the Deaf they encounter in emergency situations, sign language is also needed to communicate amongst themselves when there is too much noise at a scene. They are creating an operations manual to be shared with fire departments nationwide, which will include sign language.

In addition to teaching classes, we've introduced them to local Deaf Christians who can assist them, to help integrate the Deaf into leadership responsibility in their community. This has been a great opportunity for evangelism and also for equipping our brothers & sisters in Christ to serve their neighbors. To God be the glory!

Before the fireman's class,
we started this class in Comayagua.

We just finished an introductory sign language class and it has been amazing. The class averaged about 10 people each week but had no Deaf students - a first for us. The students attend because they want to serve God with sign language. We have 2 Deaf friends, Clauida & Luis, that attend to assist with the teaching.

We held a little celebration for their progress and gave each of them new Illustrated Bibles, to enjoy and share with younger relatives. Next for them? They want to go with us weekly to our next new class in La Paz, in order to continue learning and help Deaf children. Please pray for these students, and praise God with us for their desire to serve for His glory and honor!

We need some specific assistance, maybe you can help?

We thank God for His faithful provision for us and our family, as we serve in a foreign country. One of the more difficult issues we face is not being near our family so we can visit relatives, see our grandkids (wouldn't you miss someone that cute?) nor have a home base for our kids in college.

At this time, we are asking God to provide a place for our son to live during his senior year at Texas Weslayan University. Michael has earned a scholarship, and along with a couple of jobs he has been able to attend. But, starting in July, Michael needs a place live in or near Fort Worth. If anyone has a garage apartment, spare bedroom or an idea - please let us know. Thanks!
