Cut my tongue, I want to talk!
Can you imagine having never heard anything, your whole life. You don't even realize what a sound might sound like. Or how talking works. That is William. He lives in a remote village, a couple of hours ride down a dirt road. He has never attended school, and he is 15 years old.
Benito, his dad, started looking for somewhere for him to learn because William recently motioned to him - "cut", pointed at his tongue, then himself, then pretended to talk, with an earnest look on his face. In home signs, that is "cut my tongue, I want to talk".
William just wants his mouth to work like everyone else's around him, somehow, whatever the cost, so he can be normal. He knows he is missing communication but doesn't understand how it works. How sad.
William is quiet, well behaved and smart. We're delighted to have him and Benito attend class, and look forward to when William understands enough concepts and vocabulary to know who God is, and that God loves Him! We can't cut his tongue, but we can teach his hands to talk and eyes to hear. God bless you for helping us to help him, for the glory of God!
A new year and awesome new class!
Four weeks ago we started a new class here in our "hometown" of Siguatepeque. Attendance has been awesome, averaging around 40 people. Most exciting is that most of the students are hearing Christians, who attend so they can build relationships with the Deaf in our area. And they are getting past their shyness to interact with the Deaf students. And they are studying their homework too - amazing!
One of our main overall goals is to develop Christian communities that integrate the Deaf into their lives. In this way, the Body of Christ (ie the church) can function properly as each member contributes through using their gifts and receives the support they need from others exercising their gifts. The Deaf need the experience, wisdom and support of mature hearing Christians in their communities, and the Deaf have much to offer also.
As these become more and more of a reality, we are able to expand our efforts into new areas. The progress God has made toward this end is encouraging. We and community leaders can see the changes being made, and they are devoted to helping make this a reality too. Please pray we continue to make progress, and that God will continue to open doors to reach into more communities.
A new year and a new "Celebracion"!
"Celebracion" is a new church in our area, where we have begun signing concurrently with the voicing. The Deaf from our classes are enjoying the church, as the service and sermon formats lend themselves well to interpretation for the Deaf.
Best of all, the church members are actively building relationships with the Deaf. We praise, worship, study God's Word and fellowship together. Thanks for helping to make these updates possible. May God bless you!
Good Word Ministries relies on our Lord to provide for our support, books, Bibles, and all the teaching supplies that we hand out to the Deaf and children with disabilities in Honduras on a daily bases.
If God leads you to participate of this ministry financially, we thank you to for your support. You can mail a check to the TX address below or CLICK HERE for a link to our web site support page.
God Bless you and God bless the children of Honduras,
