Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth, but mediatate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

The Ministry

Mike and Martha have devoted their lives to helping Deaf children understand who God is, and how much God loves them.

Honduras ClassroomTheir kids have been involved in their efforts in the past, and Grace is the now the only child still living at home. She helps in the work in many ways. Their other 4 children are in the states, either married and/or in college.

Currently the Rudds are working in 4 cities in Honduras – Siguatepeque(where they live), La Esperanza, Jesus de Otoro and Concepcion del Sur.

Martha with childrenIn Siguatepeque, they hold weekly sign language classes. They have hearing and deaf students in this class. They also assist a school for disabled children called Esculela Especial, which has 15 deaf students and 30 more with other disabilites.

Recently the Rudds initiated a ministry for the deaf within a hearing church. The worship service is interpreted into LESHO (Honduran Sign Language) and they teach a Sunday School class in sign language.

In La Esperanza, students include deaf and non-verbal children as well as 2 women who have never learned language as they grew up. Even as old as age 34, students blossom as they learn their own names and begin to communicate with each other and their families.

In Jesus de Otoro, Saturday morning classes for LESHO and the Bible are held for Deaf children and their families as well as teachers and other interested hearing folks.

There has never been any sort of teaching of sign language in this city and just one deaf resident knew anything other than home signs. This class has many very young children, stretching the diversity of learning levels and teaching approaching.

The class is divided for a portion of the time to attend to the needs of everybody.
